The City of Houston's new Homebuyer's Assistance Program (HAP) provides money for down payment, closing costs and prepaid assistance coupled with counseling and education about the home buying process. Buyers who make 80% or less of the median imcome for Houston may receive up to $19,500 to purchase an existing or new home in Houston incorporated area.

The City of Houston, Housing and Community Development Department, Homebuyer Assistance Section will administer the program. You may begin your path to homeownership by becoming educated by a non-profit HUD Certified Housing Conseling Agency.

• City of Houston Inspectors will inspect homes at no cost.
• Must qualify for a mortgage loan through an Affordable Participating Lender.
• The deferred loan is forgiven after five years.
• Purchase price cannot exceed $135,000.
